New key Westminster positions announced

20 December 2016

Westminster City Council’s Leader-Elect, Cllr. Nickie Aiken, has today announced a series of new cabinet positions following on from yesterday’s appointment of Deputy Leader Cllr. Robert Davis MBE DL to the newly created portfolio of Cabinet Member for Business, Culture & Heritage.

Cllr. Aiken, who is expected to be formally sworn in as leader at the next meeting of Full Council on 25 January 2017 at Porchester Hall, was nominated as Leader-Elect earlier this month by the local Conservative Association following the decision of Westminster’s Leader, Cllr. the Baroness Couttie, to step down in order to concentrate on her role in the House of Lords.

Leader Elect, Cllr. Aiken, said: “Following lengthy discussions with the current Cabinet and other colleagues over the past few weeks, I want everyone to know what my plans are so that we can hit the ground running in 2017 and continue our preparations for a very smooth transition when Full Council meets on 25th January to formally vote for a new Leader.”

“I would like to thank all my current colleagues for their enormous contribution to Westminster. I am very much looking forward to working with my new Cabinet, particularly the Deputy Leader who is expected to take on an important, new and vital place making role. In order to deliver a City for All we are absolutely committed to improving people’s lives for the better as part of our role as custodians and advocates for this special and unique place.”
