WPA members joined us on Wednesday 19 October for an evening reception at Eighty Strand in partnership with Northbank BID. This newly refurbished, art deco, former Shell-Mex headquarters is delivering 156,000 sq ft of contemporary office space and common areas and amenities, designed to the highest standards by PDP London with Duncan Mitchell Architects.
The event featured a keynote speech from Cllr Geoff Barraclough (Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, Westminster Council) and brought together the key stakeholders spearheading the vast transformation of the Strand as the ambitious £28m project to transform the Strand Aldwych nears completion. Guests heard more on the Council’s vision to revive the area, while Northbank BID updated guests on its strategy to enhance the public realm.
The event explored:
- Westminster Council’s placemaking strategy for the area
- Northbank BID’s strategic vision to transform the public realm and updates on projects already underway
- How public and private sectors can work together to ensure the Northbank cements its position as a successful creative and economic hub, building on strong links with local cultural and educational institutions
- How the Strand will be physically transformed over the next five years and how this will attract footfall and investment
