MIPIM is the world’s leading real estate conference. Taking place on the French Riviera, the four-day event is attended by almost 27,000 property professionals – ranging from major international investors, plucky business development execs to local government leaders. There’s nothing quite like it for bringing together the great and the good of the industry to discuss major deals, industry trends and most exciting prop-tech innovations.
The summit provides a unique opportunity for London Property Alliance (the joint name for City & Westminster Property Associations) to champion our members’ interests on the global stage. But also – just as importantly – to build our engagement with city regions across the UK so we can discuss our shared opportunities and challenges, from tackling climate change to lobbying for greater fiscal devolution.
For this reason, we are pleased to be again partnering with our friends at Sheffield Property Association (S-PA) and the UK Department for International Trade on a high-level roundtable discussion with the Council Leaders and Chief Executives of the UK’s major city regions to talk about the power of national infrastructure to drive local prosperity. This will be a timely discussion as the future of HS2 makes national headlines, and the feedback from civic leaders will help inform a major piece of research by JLL for the Alliance and S-PA – to be published later in the year.
Our presence at MIPIM is, however, themed around another piece of research for the Alliance – ‘Good Growth in Central London.’ Authored by Arup, it will use the same methodology as its West End Good Growth report for the GLA and Westminster City Council from a couple of years’ ago. We are looking forward to hearing the findings of this investigation into the various growth options for London’s Central Activities Zone and Northern Isle of Dogs, and their social value impacts.
As well as being the theme of the Alliance’s stand and our annual VIP and stakeholder lunch at the Majestic Hotel, we will be launching the Good Growth report at a keynote breakfast seminar in the London Pavilion on the Wednesday morning with Arup’s Chief Economist, the WPA Chair, CPA President, leader of the City of London Corporation and a leading voice from the Mayor of London’s office. Use the link in this newsletter to book your place! I’d like to thank the sponsors of the Arup research for making it possible: Almacantar, Derwent London, Great Portland Estates, Grosvenor, Landsec and the New West End Company.
Finally, the City Property Association is proud to once again be supporting the fantastic work of the City of London Corporation in promoting the City and wider capital as the best place on earth to invest and build real estate. We will host a joint drinks reception and have been involved with their key research launch for the conference: ‘Global teams, global solutions: London as a hub for property talent’ which will launch on the Thursday morning.
If you are attending MIPIM, please do come visit our stand! Charles, Rory and I would love to hear from CPA and WPA members. See you in (hopefully) sunny Cannes!
