Oxford Street district seminar

23 Oct 2019 to 23 Oct 2019
8:00 am to 10:00 am

There was standing room only as 130 members and stakeholders joined us to hear the latest updates on the exciting plans to transform the public realm in the Oxford Street District. This breakfast seminar, hosted in partnership with New West End Company, explored the transformation projects across 88 streets in the district and zero emission zones & consolidated delivery strategies.

Deirdra Armsby (Director of Place Shaping & Town Planning) gave members an insight into how the enhancement of the Oxford Street District has been embedded in the new draft City Plan, with the Council committing £150m of funds from its capital budget to kickstart world-class improvements throughout the District. This ambitious plan to reinvigorate the area will be delivered by the Council in partnership with local businesses over the next three years.

The expert panel, moderated by James Cooksey (Director of Central London at The Crown Estate and NWEC/WPA Board member), included Deidra Armsby; Sacha Berendji (Retail Operations and Property Director at @Marks and Spencer and Jace Tyrrell (Chief Executive of NWEC), shared ideas on the various ways the public realm can be improved to make the area an attractive and welcoming destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Attendees also had the chance to see the new developments and investments planned for the area over the next 1,000 days as part of the Oxford Street 2022 report. With over £2.9 billion investment over the next three years, a new West End is emerging. You can download the report here.
