This seminar, hosted in partnership with the New West End Company, discussed the GLA’s ambitious plans to transform Oxford Street into a traffic-free pedestrianised boulevard through a new Mayoral Development Corporation, and secure Oxford Street’s position as a world-leading retail, leisure and hospitality destination.
Attendees heard from the Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, Howard Dawber, on the role of Oxford Street in driving growth. This was followed by an update from Dr. Will Norman, Transport for London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, on the Oxford Street public realm project. Our panellists then explored the future of Oxford Street, highlighting the need for the street to evolve and the importance of public-private partnerships. Our speakers included:
- Paul Williams, Chair of NWEC, Immediate Past Chair of WPA & Chief Executive, Derwent London
- Alexander Jan, Chief Economic Advisor, London Property Alliance (panel chair)
- Dee Corsi, Chief Executive Officer, New West End Company
- Cllr Geoff Barraclough, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, Westminster City Council
- Dan Nicholson, WPA Board & Executive Director, GPE
- Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor, Planning and Regeneration, Greater London Authority
