Over 150 members and stakeholders joined us for the WPA Summer Reception on Monday evening (23 July). The event was hosted in the new Collections Gallery of the Royal Academy, the prestigious arts gallery and school in the heart of Mayfair. Our keynote speakers, along with WPA Chair James Cooksey, were:
• Cllr Nickie Aiken, Leader of Westminster City Council
• Sir Charles Saumarez Smith CBE, Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy
Cllr Aiken spoke about the vital role that arts and cultural institutions play in making the West End such a unique global destination. She also used her speech to announce Westminster City Council’s decision to contribute £2million towards the transformation of Hanover Square.
Sir Charles explained the fascinating history of the Academy building, including the opening of the £56 million David Chipperfield-designed extension this year – which links the building to Burlington Gardens and the new Elizabeth line entrance at Bond Street.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Summer Reception, see below for further events coming up and keep an eye out for our news and events newsletters for further updates on our programme.
